Oops.

So how's everyone doing? Discourse analysis is kicking my arse, and when I say "discourse analysis" I mean "trying to pin down what discourse analysis actually is". Waaaaaah.

I have a meeting with my thesis adviser tomorrow and she is going to eat me and then kick me out of the program and then tell me I'm stupid and then laugh at me!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the rational world, I keep stumbling on interesting things in my research, and I'm glad I have such a good mentor that I can ask how she thinks I should best work them in. (Is it relevant that the school Annual Reports never mention race, but the newspapers always highlight the non-white students? I think so! But I don't know how to talk about that.)

I had a good meeting with my supervisors. Which was nice.

But I'm back at the "there is too much interesting stuff! I could write three dissertations on this!" Which is, you know, less than helpful.

Oh boy, do I know that feeling. My supervisor has been making a heroic effort for the last 2 years to get me to scale things down a bit and focus on something manageable, but the volume of theories and texts and disciplines that are implicated in my topic is still ridiculous.

Mine suggested the mantra TUNNEL VISION yesterday. Okay, she didn't suggest it in all caps, but that's how I heard it. I just nodded, because, yes, sensible, but then I wouldn't get to have fun with all the other stuff!

I fixed a fault in my chapter argument that was stopping me progressing, and rewrote the first few thousand words into something I'm a lot happier with.

Now the only things getting in the way of me finishing it are the usual end-of-second-year suspects: I'm tired, I'm fed up, I've completely lost sight of why I ever wanted to do this in the first place, and I just wish the damn thing was finished :/
