So how's everyone doing?

I had an induction day in my new department despite being a third year and it was somewhat annoying - wish I'd known about the Arts Graduate Centre when I started, but I've now got a job through someone there, I managed to track down my supervisor, had my Annual Review which was surprisingly positive, had training for another job I'm starting and am now doing a week's full-time work back at my old department. In my free time (hah) I'm organising stuff for the LGBT network. Apparently there's this thesis I'm supposed to be working on too...

I can't be the only one doing a juggling act like this. I've come to rely on my filofax - what do you do to ensure you're at the right place at th right time on the right day?

I am flailing! Survived week one, which is something, but I am trying to shake the feeling of being very young and rather stupid, and also trying to learn my way around the politics department, which is a very confusing building. Oh, and psyching myself up to Read All The Things, I should probably get on that.

And my diary is pretty much my best friend right now - job interviews, engineer visits, and even a social life, I'd have no idea what I was doing otherwise.

Yahoo agenda sends me an e-mail every morning with the list of things I have to do that day AND another e-mail 15 minutes before the event actually begins (because yes, I can forget something I have been reminded on the morning. In fact, I can forget something I have been reminded one hour before. In one hour, you can seat, have a coffee and begin to read or to write an article, wonder where you put that data you collected the month before, wasn't it on a box on the second shelf, or maybe in the cupboard ? bloody hell this is a table I draw last week and I forgot to include in my paper ! hey, why is my coffee cold ? didn't I have something to do, I can't remember ? Oh, if I forgot, that wasn't important. Probably.)
This service saves my life.
But it's been ages I haven't received an e-mail about social life.

I am running around like a headless chicken right now. Teaching started yesterday, so there was all the prep work for that, and now I'm trying to do the prep work for the next seminar. I need to get it done today because I'm working all weekend and then I have to go to another city and see family. I don't think they'd react well to "I know I haven't seen most of you in sixteen years, but I'm afraid I have no time to spend with you because I am working." Also there's the PostGrad Seminar that I'm co-organising. We had the first one last night and it went really well, but there is another in two weeks. We have no speakers!

I could not live without my diary. It looks like coloured pens threw up on it, but it is the only thing keeping me from totally dropping the bat right now.
